Team Captains Lee Ashenfelder and Rick Noll

From the Yearbook:

Wrestlers Mature into Colonial League Champs

With the excellent history of Nazareth Wrestling in the past this year the fans did not expect anything but the best. The best is what the fans got. The 1980-81 team was undefeated in the league, gaining the Colonial League Championship, and held an overall record of 16 wins and 2 losses. Grabbing the 16 wins allowed the team to set a new school record.

Along with the above honors Nazareth became the Colonial League tournament champions receiving 126.5 points to Saucon Valley's 121.5. The tournament resulted in three champions Mark Belkey, Brett Fehnel, and Lee Ashenfelder. Lee Ashenfelder was a champion at the Christmas City tournament as well. At the Christmas City tourney Greg Noll, Jim Albanese, and Bruce Shoemaker also had respectable showing of second place.

The highlight of the wrestling season for Coach Nunamaker and the squad came on January 22. On this day Nazareth defeated Saucon Valley 33-22. The match was highlighted by Ernie Arduini's pin at Heavyweight.

The Nazareth Wrestling Team surely was something to make the school proud. This year's wrestling team overcame many obstacles which permitted it to gain many achievements throughout the season.
