Health Update 7-21-15

on Tue, 07/21/2015 - 18:10

It is hard to believe that this picture was taken last summer. We were at Watkins Glen enjoying the town, state park, wineries, and sports car racing. Dad would play badminton with the girls in an attempt by Alexa to play well enough to beat Mike Herceg in gym class. Dad was also golfing regularly and very fit, as anyone who knows him would expect.

Last week I noted that we were stopping treatment and having hospice come in. This past weekend his brother came in as did his sister, her husband, and my cousins. It was good having everyone there and catching up as we don't do it often enough.

This week, though, his overall condition continues to get worse. Both yesterday and today my mom has had to cancel visits by friends and former wrestlers to see him.

I feel like a broken record saying that we appreciate everyone's well-wishes, prayers, visits, and offers of help, but it is very true. Unfortunately, we don't think he'll be able to have visitors any longer. It is too unpredictable of when he is tired or how he will be.

You can reach out through the form on this website, which I forward to my mom to read to him, or you can send a card as dad remains at home: 110 Moor Drive, Easton, PA 18045.

Again thank you to all the people he touched throughout his life who are now there for us.

Just wanted to say that I was thinking of you and your family. People understand and now it's a time for your family. Tell your dad he has impacted so many people's lives and we thank him for that and that we all love him. I know how hard this must be for you and know that you have a whole community to lift you up. You are a great son. Hugs and prayers to all of you.

Your friend,

Hi there Mr. Nunnamaker!

I'm sending up prayers for you, your wife, and your wonderful family. You and Mrs. Nunnamaker must be so proud of them. Your sweet, compassionate and caring personality has always been a wonderful example for all of us. Even years after I graduated, you always had a smile and a "How are you?" whenever I would run into you. Thank you for that. I've always admired your talent, perseverence and dedication to teaching and coaching, however, it is your genuine kindhearted charm that  is truly legendary. You are a champion in so many ways. Please know how much you are loved.

With much respect, admiration, and thanks,

                                     Patti Jeanne (Pritchard) Tanzos '79

Few men have impacted me more than Ray Nunamaker.  Thank you for allowing him to be shared with the world.  Peace to you, my friend.

Mr Nunamaker just wanted to drop a line and thank you for all the support you not only gave your athletes but the entire student body of Nazareth thru the years. I will always remember your can do attitude and the way you always seemed to be able to crack a smile. It was always apparent the love you had for your job and students. Your everything a teacher and mentor is supposed to be. I wish you all the best in the world and you and your family are in my prayers. Thank you for showing us all how to conduct ourselves and take pride in all that we do.

Just like your name, you are a ray of hope and a model of what hard work and determination to succeed can do for a person. I have two hands and can count on one of them the people that I have considered mentors in my life- you are one of the most significant. I have been blessed to know you and you will always remain a ray of sunshine from the stars above to me. Godspeed Ray ...... My prayers are with you always.  Love, your Eagle matmaid, Cheryl Moss

Mr Nunamaker was one of my favorite teachers and a legacy in Wrestling. He made so many of us better students, athletes, and people. I've always had the fondest of memories when it comes to Ray and I will always cherish them. I know without a doubt he made Nazareth a better place to live, learn, and grow up. I'll be praying down here in Florida for one of the most humble men I've ever known as well as a true Class Act! Thank you for sharing with us. My thoughts and prayers to everyone who's lives he touched.

Dear Mr. Nunamaker...I am a 1980 graduate, and it has been my honor to have been able to have known you as a teacher and coach.  You have truly made a positive difference in our school and in so many of the lives you have touched.  Some of my fondest school memories are of the hours spent cheering at wrestling matches, and being a part of the sports at Nazareth School District.  Thank you for all you have done over so many years.  I am now a teacher myself, and aspire to leave even half the legacy you have created.  Thanks for your fine example.  All God's blessings to you and your family.  -Shelley Anthony

I had gym class three times a week with Mr. Nonamaker from my sophmore through senior years ending in 1972. The time spent when we would have to wrestle during class was tough but I bet I can still slap a cradle on anyone. Thank you and God bless.
