Celebration of Life Details

on Fri, 08/14/2015 - 16:03

On Sunday, August 16, 2015, beginning at 1:00 p.m. we will be celebrating the life of Ray Nunamaker at the Nazareth High School Gym named in his honor. While we mourn the loss of Ray, this day is to celebrate his well-lived life. Photos to commemorate coming together and celebrating his life are welcome. There will not be a formal ceremony at the event. We will have memorabilia, pictures, testimonials, and quotes of some of Ray's memorable sayings as well as an opportunity to greet the family.

The main entrance will be on the side of the gym by the wrestling room.

Mass at Holy Family - Thursday, August 20, 8:30 a.m.

on Thu, 08/13/2015 - 18:48

The mass at Holy Family on Thursday, August 20 at 8:30 AM, will "be offered for the repose of the soul of Ray Nunamaker."

When wrestling for dad, we always knew which dual meets were going to be tough and which ones weren't. He didn't take chances and would work out every far-fetched scenario that might result in a loss to keep us from taking anyone too lightly.

I'm pretty sure that when dad arrived at the Pearly Gates, Saint Peter said something along the lines, "It's about time, we've got a room full of kids that need your help, and ushered him right in," but we're not taking chances.

The Lehigh Wrestling Club has an article on dad on their website, hadn't seen this before and wanted to share it.

Ironwood Ridge Remembers Ray

on Mon, 08/10/2015 - 19:22

On Sunday, August 9, the Ironwood Ridge wrestling family got together to remember Ray.

Fortunately, my cousin Liza, who lives in Tucson was able to attend with her family and sent this note about the day.

Yesterday I attended the memorial for Ray given by the Ironwood Wrestling Team. Upon arriving, I immediately met Tim, the head coach, and his wife. They were very welcoming. Tim is a quiet man but it was obvious that he cared deeply for Ray. His wife pulled me aside and told me that Tim had lost his father as a teenager and that Ray had become his father figure.

Many thanks, and the site is now mobile friendly!

We have heard from so many people over the past days, weeks, and months.

I know we haven't been able to respond to everyone, but please know we have read and been touched by all the messages.

Overwhelming may not be a big enough word.

On this website alone in the past month there have been over 8,000 visitors, 12,000 sessions, and 60,000 pageviews, it is truly hard to believe.

Last night I realized that over 65% visited using their mobile phone and when I checked on mine the site wasn't mobile optimized.

Thanks to a friend I was able to make it more mobile friendly.

More Posts that Lift Us II

This was a wonderful post, because it reminded me of the various areas of interest my dad had from sports to art to music. It also showed how his interest was never only for his wrestlers, and it would be easy to over-focus on that part of his being.

Rebecca Anderson Nowery:

Not only was Mr Nunamaker's name synonymous with Nazareth wrestling, but he was also a big supporter of the arts. Throughout high school, he would ask me about the plays we had coming up, and I don't think he ever missed one of our spring musicals. Ryan, Ross and family - our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

So many good posts and we appreciate them all, but I came across these and thought they were well worth sharing here, learning new things every day:

I was deeply saddened to learn of Ray's passing and extend my most sincere condolences to his family. Ray was an undergraduate student and also a master's student during my tenure at Penn State. He was a student in a number of my classes, and I was privileged to serve as his adviser when he was working on his Master of Education degree. Ray was truly a delight. He was a very good student, an outstanding athlete, and a class act in every regard.

I came across this post from one of dad's Ironwood Ridge kids, made me happy:

Dad simply loved teaching and coaching - if you wanted to learn, he was ready to teach.

The family will be having a Celebration of Life for Ray Nunamaker on Sunday, August 16, beginning at 1:00 pm, fittingly in the Raymond J. Nunamaker Gymnasium at Nazareth High School. Entrance will be via the side door by the wrestling room to the gym and the family will be in the lobby. The cafeteria will be available for friends to talk and have light refreshments.

We appreciate everyone at the school who have helped make this possible in a very short period of time, as well as everyone at Reichel Funeral home for their help and assistance.

Rest in Peace Dad
